Faced with the challenge of reinventing a home that screamed boring and lacked any beautiful coastal charm
The layout of this coastal remodel needed immediate reimagination of the flow and function not to mention to service the needs of the new owners. This project was the epitome of engaging a family who were in a new phase of growth (older kids who are building families themselves) to really create a space that created effortless flow and function for day to day life and lots of fun by the beach. The before pictures tell a story of a home that had already been remodeled in a very unusual way – so there were structural challenges galore – a lot of dated, uninspiring materials that needed to go – and a sort of chopped up hub to the home that had to be reimagined.
New materials in the baths made a huge difference but not as much as the improved layout
The layout of these baths were not designed originally for optimal use so this was the first order of business and Cheryl dug into reimagining the home without moving any exterior walls but oh did we gain more useuable space! Then we focused on selecting materials that felt elevated and timeless with a keen eye to carrying color stories through that were beachy and casual – the balance of a more contemporary feel, cleaner lines and lower profile furnishings so that the outdoors were always an accent in every space was important.
The kitchen needed more entertainment space and a larger pantry
Building out a more robust working and entertaining kitchen with ample pantry space was also key. Reimagining the primary suite to something that was approachable but really special – and elevating the experience for guests in the home by setting a fun tone for the guest bathrooms on the main level and up in a tuckaway suite with a beautiful freestanding soaking tub – every transition and material selection was considered carefully and with an acuity to the bigger picture.
Now the family can sit back, relax and really enjoy their space for every occassion with ample opportunity for their loved ones to come back and join them (and feel like they’re right at home, too!)
