This fantastic kitchen remodel that tied together the home in beautiful East Hill Pensacola. Where many clients arrive asking for ample space for eat in living and a big island for all the kids to pony up – the focus of this kitchen remodel was very different. Their existing layout felt snug, inefficient and limited at best for the kind of cooking and hostessing they were aiming to accommodate. And as retirees, why operate in a space you’ll spend a lot of time in without the amenities you really love?

Their to do list focused in on accommodating two dedicated prep spaces for communal cooking where they could easily store and access all their bulk dry goods in a pantry, but where the kitchen itself could support easy retrieval of lots of serving dishes, tools and day to day basics. They also wanted a dedicated bar for beverage service and display of unique objects and art from their travels.

The outer limits of the kitchen space served up some obstacles in our schematic phase – these were accentuated by a sizable chase for plumbing in a nearby closet and no access chase for ducting the hood. Working around these limitations we offered a variety of layout solutions in our schematic phase which supported their opportunity to complete a thorough assessment of which needs felt highest priority and which were inconsequential — function really won out over form for them in a lot of ways. But what was most important – the layout and appliances and materials were the perfect fit for them and inspired a wonderful opportunity to breathe new life into their routines when home together.
