Coastal Kitchen with Memories
All white is not a request we get very often but when presented with the challenge to refresh the core of this home and make it feel timeless with a touch on Nantucket flare – we were excited to dig in.
Function is Important
This space held a lot of memories for the client so understanding how to balance a new feel alongside the sentimentality of the use of the space was a priority. The function of the original kitchen layout was also flawed in that it didn’t offer a really effective workspace for the cook. The original layout also presented a closed in feeling with a horseshoe shaped peninsula. Identifying a more open design that offered a fabulous new dedicated pantry space and a bold, beautiful new island really made all the difference. We tied the cabinetry into the existing trim which had been installed lovingly by the client’s husband and incorporated some fun textile accents to help unify the nearby living room to this new entertaining space.
Not all white kitchens are the same
Aesthetically – curating whites of course is a challenge in and of itself. But sourcing the perfect slabs for the countertops and nailing the handmade look in the backsplash definitely added to aesthetic – clean but comfortable. Give the space a fresh coat of paint, some pretty new lights and appliances – and layer in the fun ceramics and cookbooks from this client’s travels and the kitchen delivers a warm, inviting ambiance (but also acts as a perfect blank canvas for fun new art and accents over time!
