Coloful beach cottage with Old Florida style

Coastal design with color!

Colorful coastal home evoking old Florida style with rich saturated colors!

So often as designers we are faced with clients whose goals are focused on updating spaces with a more transitional, clean feel. Clients want the look they’ve seen in magazines. Few realize that there are more opportunities  for coastal design and  coastal kitchens than white cabinets.  Therefore, the ubiquitous subway tile backsplash can be reinterpreted with infused color and layers of texture. Truly telling a well lived story. This kitchen  is not for everyone! It defies trends in so many ways but yet embraces a certain “work ethic” in the space that is heartily authentic.

Out of the box thinking interpreting coastal design

Our goal was to really think of out-of-the-box ways to infuse color and layer texture in tactful and organic ways. Above all, telling a bigger-and more detailed- story of this open floor plan combining living space and what we  call the “undining” room.  As a well-traveled art collector and vintage connoisseur, we had amazing objects to draw from. Colors, sheens, shapes and the layering of every element was carefully composed.

Yes grasscloth – perfect in coastal cottages

From the ochre grass cloth accents in the display areas of cabinetry to the combination of unique cabinet pulls – and my-oh-my that backsplash tile!

Adding to the combination while keeping a careful eye to the edit button. This kitchen is all about the client’s colorful personality and style.  Above all, still maintaining good design practice and function in such a small area.
